Jennifer I love your Aspen Dance pastel painting.  Its lovely.  So sensitive and the colours are so soothing.  I would love to go and sit there and drink in the peace and quiet.  Congratulations.

I was honored to have my painting "Aspen Dance"
chosen to exhibit in the 40th Pastel Society of America
International Open Juried Show this last summer.
"Aspen Dance"   9x12, sold during the show and now
resides in a great home in New York City!

I was not happy with the first black and white sketch, so I tackled another with a darker mid-tone paper.  I like this one very much. Hope you enjoy it.

I tried Don's Art Challenge 6.  Here is "Imelda's Cottage" that I just completed.

Was just enjoying the Dala pastels, and this is the second effort to come along.  Hope you enjoy it. Called "Cottage" 25 x 29cms on brown Canson pastel paper.

I wanted to ask what you all think.  Are they "pastel paintings", or "pastel sketches".... either term is misleading as one does not really "paint" with pastels, and they are not really sketches.... so what does one call pastel work?  Just interested to hear what other people think about this subject.

I love working in all media, but have not done any pastels in many years.  I was given a box of Dala pastels last week and told to go and play with them - they just wanted feedback and use of the my first picture.  Here is it for you see.  What do you think? Will it pass muster?  Only had 12 colours... White, black, yellow ochre, lemon yellow, orange, rose, purple, lilac, light baby blue, leaf green, viridian green, brown.  No dark blues... oh no.  I didn't quite know how to overcome this.
